Deadly Steuben standoff update: Drone and body cam footage released by investigators

  • Staff Report

The New York State Attorney General’s Office has released drone and body camera footage from a fatal standoff in Cameron last month, where 50-year-old Allen V. Hoad II was shot by law enforcement after a 12-hour confrontation. The standoff began at Hoad’s Angel Road residence and ended when he allegedly drove his truck at officers, prompting them to fire.

The footage shows Hoad ramming a police vehicle, exiting his truck with two dogs, and falling as officers approached with weapons drawn. Body cam footage captures gunfire, shouted commands, and officers rendering aid after Hoad was subdued. Sheriff James Allard called the outcome tragic, emphasizing efforts to prevent escalation.

The standoff began as a welfare check but escalated when Hoad allegedly fired a shotgun at police, made threats, and attempted to enter another home. Authorities recovered a shotgun from his vehicle. The Attorney General’s investigation is ongoing.
