Push for permanent daylight saving time gains momentum

President-elect Donald Trump supports ending daylight saving time (DST), calling the bi-annual clock changes costly and inconvenient. Sen. Rick Scott has reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act to make DST permanent, following growing public frustration over the practice.

DST, established nationally in 1966 to save energy, has faced repeated challenges. A similar permanent change in 1974 was reversed due to public dissatisfaction with late winter sunrises. Florida and 18 other states have already passed measures to stop clock changes, pending federal approval.

Currently, Arizona, Hawaii, and five U.S. territories do not observe DST. Unless changes are enacted, DST begins again on March 9, 2025. Advocates argue that ending the practice would simplify lives and eliminate disruptions.
