Trump selects Scott Bessent as Treasury secretary nominee

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Scott Bessent, a prominent investor and campaign trail ally, as his choice for Treasury secretary. Trump highlighted Bessent’s expertise and commitment to the “America First” agenda in his announcement, following a closely watched selection process.

Bessent, CEO of Key Square Capital Management and a former Soros Fund executive, faces the challenge of stabilizing markets while advancing Trump’s economic policies, including tariffs and potential deficit spending. His selection concludes a process that saw other contenders, like Apollo Global Management’s Marc Rowan, in the mix.

The nominee is tasked with addressing trade imbalances and promoting economic growth, which Trump described as ushering in a “new Golden Era.” Bessent’s high-profile public advocacy and campaign appearances solidified his position as a trusted economic voice for the administration.
