The New York Mets made their first trade of the offseason on Tuesday, acquiring outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for reliever Eric Orze, the teams announced.
Siri, who had been with the Rays since 2022, has three years of team control left and is arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason.
The 29-year-old is known for his elite defense in center field. He had 16 outs above average last season, tied for the second-most in MLB. Offensively, Siri hit 43 home runs with 103 RBI over 131 games with the Rays.
Orze, 27, was the Mets’ fifth-round Draft pick in 2020. He recorded a 2.92 ERA over 43 appearances at Triple-A Syracuse this past season.
