Fire crews from multiple departments, including the Mottville Fire Company, responded to a significant brush fire near Baker Road in Cayuga County on Friday, mobilizing local resources to contain the flames.
The fire broke out around 11:46 a.m., prompting a rapid response from Mottville’s Engine 2, Squad 3, and UTV38 teams, alongside firefighters from neighboring communities.
Upon arrival, Mottville’s UTV38 crew deployed to the active fire scene, working directly in a nearby field to subdue the blaze. Simultaneously, Engine 2 established a water supply from a nearby pond, providing additional resources to assist mutual aid units working to control the fire’s spread.
Local farmers, stepping in to support the firefighting efforts, utilized tractors and plows to carve out firebreaks, crucial in containing the fire and preventing it from advancing across the area.
In addition to Mottville, fire companies from Skaneateles, Throop, Weedsport, and Owasco arrived with both personnel and equipment to combat the brush fire. Their collective response demonstrates the strength of community partnerships and resource-sharing among neighboring fire agencies.
The efforts of firefighters and local community members ultimately helped prevent further damage in the fire’s path.
