Savannah town supervisor says state funds announcement isn’t new

Savannah Town Supervisor Frank Paddock clarified that recent funds announced for the town’s wastewater treatment upgrade aren’t new, despite Gov. Kathy Hochul’s press release suggesting otherwise.

Paddock told the Finger Lakes Times that the $1.4 million for planning, design, and construction includes previously promised grants, and only a pending 30-year loan is new.

He expressed concern that the announcement misled residents, some of whom believe recent water rate hikes were unnecessary.

The project is essential for compliance with Department of Environmental Conservation standards, moving away from chlorination for the hamlet’s water supply.
