In response to community concerns over pollution from Seneca Meadows landfill, the largest in New York, new air quality monitors have been installed around the site.
These low-cost devices allow residents to track pollution levels in real time via an online map, showing air quality through a color-coded system aligned with federal standards.
Advocates say the data will be collected quarterly over the next year to identify seasonal and environmental trends that affect air quality.
Meanwhile, the state Health Department is investigating local cancer rates, and the Department of Environmental Conservation has extended the review period for Seneca Meadows’ draft environmental impact statement until Nov. 12.
