A Steuben County woman has been charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny following an investigation by county officials. Amanda K. Grant, 37, of Addison, was arrested on Oct. 24 after allegedly filing false information to obtain $15,858 in public assistance benefits, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators allege that Grant submitted fraudulent filings to the county’s Department of Social Services from March 2023 to April 2024, leading to charges of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, welfare fraud in the third degree, and grand larceny in the third degree. All charges are felonies.
Grant was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released. The Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation with support from the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.
