Prepare for a relatively mild winter, New Yorkers, but don’t put away the snow gear just yet.
AccuWeather’s 2024-25 winter forecast predicts warmer-than-usual conditions overall, but with periodic blasts of frigid air and more snow than last year.
According to meteorologists, December may bring lake-effect snow, and snowstorms are likely in February as the polar vortex could bring bitter cold to the Northeast.
NOAA forecasts a 40% to 50% chance of above-average temperatures for most of the state, while Farmer’s Almanac predicts rapid-fire storms with snow in the interior and rain along the coast.
The season officially starts on December 1, according to the meteorological calendar.
