A 71-year-old Rochester man was arrested Saturday evening after leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Yates County, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Donald G. Symer was initially spotted on Voak Road in the Town of Potter, where he passed a deputy at a high rate of speed, repeatedly crossing the center line. When officers attempted to stop him, Symer fled, reaching speeds over 100 mph. The pursuit continued into the Town of Gorham in Ontario County, where deputies finally managed to stop the vehicle.
After conducting field sobriety tests, deputies determined Symer was driving while intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including DWI, reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and failure to comply with lawful orders. Symer was transported to the Yates County Public Safety Building for further processing and was released on tickets.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Potter Court at a later date.
