Newark launches ‘Home for the Holidays’ with parade of lights and festive events

The village of Newark is ushering in the holiday season with a new community tradition, “Home for the Holidays,” a celebration packed with events running from Thanksgiving through the New Year.

Festivities kick off on November 28 with the Newark Turkey Day Race, a five-mile run organized by the Newark Cross Country Boosters. Following the race, the excitement continues on November 30 with the inaugural Parade of Lights, a Tree Decorating Contest, and the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Alex Eligh Community Center. The November 30 events also coincide with Small Business Saturday, encouraging residents to shop locally for gifts, services, and more.

“These events are about more than just holiday decorations,” said Mayor Jonathan Taylor. “They’re about bringing people together, creating moments of joy, and fostering community spirit. We need everyone’s support to make this season truly special.”

In addition to these highlights, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) will perform at Newark High School on December 6 at 7 p.m., and the Newark Fire Department will host its popular Breakfast with Santa on December 7 at 7:30 a.m.

For those looking to get involved, entry forms for the Parade of Lights and the Tree Decorating Contest are available online or at Katie Pullen Allstate Insurance, 119 E. Union Street in Newark. The community is also encouraged to donate toward new Christmas lights and decorations.
