The City of Canandaigua is searching for a new City Court judge following the recent retirement of Hon. Jacqueline Sisson. In line with New York State Uniform City Court Law, the Mayor of Canandaigua, Bob Palumbo, will appoint a qualified candidate to serve until a successor is elected in the next general election, with the new judge expected to take office on January 1, 2026.
Candidates interested in the position must meet specific qualifications, including being a licensed attorney in New York State for at least five years and residing within the city limits of Canandaigua. The selected judge will be responsible for handling a variety of cases, from felony arraignments and misdemeanor offenses to civil lawsuits and landlord-tenant disputes. The role may also involve handling Family Court and County Court matters, depending on the discretion of the Administrative Judge.
Qualified candidates are invited to submit a resume and letter of interest to Mayor Palumbo by November 8, 2024. Applications can be sent to 2 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424, or via email at [email protected].
This appointment will play a crucial role in the city’s judicial system, ensuring continued access to justice for the community until a permanent judge is elected.
