A Geneva man was arrested late Friday evening following a traffic stop in the Town of Benton, Yates County deputies said.
Daniel A. Dematties, 35, was charged with driving while intoxicated after deputies pulled him over on Pre-Emption Road at around 10:17 p.m., according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said Dematties was speeding in a 55 mph zone and following another vehicle too closely when he was stopped by deputies.
After conducting field sobriety tests, deputies arrested Dematties on suspicion of DWI. He was also charged with having a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, which exceeds the legal limit in New York. In addition to the DWI charges, he faces charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree (AUO 3rd) and several traffic violations, including speeding and following too closely.
Dematties was transported to the Yates County Public Safety Building, where he submitted to a chemical test before being released on tickets. He is scheduled to appear in Benton Town Court at a later date.
