Hurricane Milton threatens Florida: A look back at recent major storms

As Hurricane Milton advances toward Florida’s Gulf Coast, residents brace for its impact, mindful of the devastation past hurricanes have caused.

Forecasted to make landfall as a powerful Category 3 or 4 storm, Milton’s damage will hinge on storm surge levels and evacuation efforts.

In recent years, storms like Helene (2024) left at least 236 dead, while Beryl (2024) caused up to $32 billion in damages. Hurricanes Idalia (2023), Ian (2022), and Ida (2021) also brought significant loss of life and property.

Officials urge residents to take precautions, warning that Milton could rival the severity of these previous hurricanes.
