Wayne County marked a milestone in its effort to enhance emergency medical services on Tuesday with the ribbon-cutting for its new EMS headquarters in Lyons.
The county launched its EMS agency in July 2023 after a 2020 study revealed slow response times and a decline in volunteer services.
The new facility will house administration, medics, and ambulances, addressing gaps left by disbanded ambulance services. The county plans to build three additional EMS bases across Rose, Sodus, and Walworth to ensure quick response times.
County officials have invested over $30 million in the project, aided by federal COVID stimulus funds.
