A Rochester man was arrested Saturday afternoon outside Dick’s Sporting Goods at Eastview Mall after authorities say he attempted to steal merchandise and was found in possession of burglary tools. Marvin T. Gilbert, 40, was taken into custody following the incident.
Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shoplifting complaint at approximately 12:23 p.m. Store security had alerted law enforcement after witnessing Gilbert removing security tags from items.
The investigation revealed that Gilbert had allegedly stolen from the store on two prior occasions. He was arrested in the parking lot and charged with two counts of petit larceny and one count of possession of burglary tools.
Gilbert was also banned from Eastview Mall for life. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charges in Victor Town Court.
