Geneva city officials are assuring residents that recent algae blooms in Seneca Lake, which have turned the water green at the north end, are not affecting the city’s drinking water supply.
Joe Venuti, director of public works, told the Finger Lakes Times this weekend intake lines are located three miles south of the bloom and that water quality is regularly monitored under strict guidelines.
The harmful algal blooms, which can release dangerous toxins, have been particularly severe this year, though Venuti confirmed tests show the water remains safe.
Despite the blooms local businesses reported no disruptions. Video of the bloom was captured and published by Skylake Digital on Instagram, too.
