In response to growing concerns over school safety, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a series of threats circulating on social media. According to a press release from Sheriff Robert E. Milby, the threats appear to be part of a larger national pattern, with many of them being reposts rather than direct or credible threats to local schools.
While law enforcement agencies across the county and region are actively monitoring these reports, Sheriff Milby emphasized that there is no indication of an immediate danger to any Wayne County schools. However, the Sheriff’s Office is committed to continued vigilance and will take appropriate actions as necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Sheriff Milby urged parents and guardians to have open conversations with their children about the importance of reporting any concerning behavior to a responsible adult or authorities, rather than reposting or sharing unverified threats. “School is still one of the safest places to be outside the comfort of home,” Milby said, assuring the community that school officials and law enforcement are working diligently to maintain safety.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to prioritize the security of local schools and encourages the public to report any suspicious activity.
