Governor Kathy Hochul has highlighted New York State’s distribution of $2.3 billion in tax relief to nearly three million residents through the School Tax Relief (STAR) program. Designed to provide property tax exemptions and credits to eligible homeowners and senior citizens, the STAR program has already delivered relief to more than two million residents, with the remainder expected to receive benefits in the coming weeks.
“Back-to-school season is also tax relief season for millions of New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said, emphasizing the state’s commitment to easing financial pressures on families and seniors. The program allows homeowners to receive credits or exemptions based on income levels, with eligible seniors potentially receiving more than $1,000.
Governor Hochul also promoted the newly launched STAR digital portal, enabling recipients to receive credits via direct deposit. Sign-ups for direct deposit are still open for Long Island residents for this year’s payments.
