The Finger Lakes Community College women’s soccer team clinched their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Tompkins Cortland Community College 2-1 in a hard-fought home contest. After a scoreless first half, freshman Brynn Westlake broke the deadlock in the 46th minute, giving the Lakers the lead.
Westlake doubled the advantage with a second goal at the 55-minute mark, converting a set piece to put FLCC up 2-0. The Panthers pulled one back in the 77th minute with a goal from Cassie Doane, but goalkeeper Hannah Cowan stood firm, making seven saves to seal the win.
The Lakers look to continue their momentum next Sunday when they face SUNY Niagara at 1 PM on their home turf.
