SAFETY MOMENT: Driving around school zones now that it’s fall!

Keeping our minds on our path and focusing on the safest path are key behaviors for safely operating at the landfill. There are times throughout the year where we alter traffic patterns at the landfill for safety or operational updates. As a result we need to focus more to become accustomed to the new traffic patterns.

The beginning of the school year signals new traffic patterns on the local roads. This time of year the daily routines pivot to school activities, and the time of the day of those school activities. This results in new traffic patterns that we had become accustomed to over the summer.

Safe driving behaviors to employ especially around school zones and times where kids are present.

  • Obey the school zone rules.
  • Be mindful of school pick up and drop off times.
  • Watch for bicycles darting between lanes.
  • Never pass vehicles in no passing zones or around school zones as children could be crossing through blind spots.
  • Avoid blocking crosswalks creating a blind spot.
  • Be ready to stop for school buses preparing to load or unload.
  • SLOW DOWN
