Ithaca Police are investigating a second assault reported early Saturday morning on East State Street near The Ithaca Commons as a potential hate crime after derogatory comments were made about the victims’ ethnicity during the incident. Last week another incident was detailed by police, where a person was assaulted and the suspect made statements during the attack that led investigators to open a hate crime investigation.
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East State Street around 12:15 a.m. on August 24th, 2024, following reports of a dispute. Upon arrival, police spoke with two victims who reported being physically attacked by four individuals. The suspects fled the area before police arrived. The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspects are described as two Black males and two white males. One Black male was wearing a gray sweatshirt and black pants, while the other wore blue jeans and a black sweatshirt. One white male was wearing tan pants and a gray shirt, and the other wore gray pants and a gray shirt.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Ithaca Police Department. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the department’s website.
