New York STAR checks begin arriving for homeowners: How soon will yours arrive?

New York homeowners eligible for the state’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program can expect their benefit checks or tax bill exemptions to arrive between late August and December, depending on their location. The STAR program provides property tax relief either through a direct credit on the tax bill or as a separate check.

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance started issuing the bulk of these benefits in September, with payments continuing through the end of the year. Homeowners in districts with earlier tax deadlines may have already received their checks.

For quicker payment, homeowners can enroll in the STAR Credit Direct Deposit program. Those eligible for STAR or looking to switch benefit types can find more information at tax.ny.gov/star.
