The YMCA of Clifton Springs is set to become the canvas for a vibrant new mural, thanks to a grant from Ontario County’s Arts, Culture, and Recreation Program. The project, spearheaded by local advocates, will culminate in a community painting event on September 14 at “The Palace Theatre” on Crane Street, where the YMCA’s fitness center is housed.
The mural, designed by Clifton Springs native and muralist Audra Linsner, will coincide with the Main Street Arts’ annual plein air painting event. Residents of all ages are invited to contribute to the artwork, no experience required. “Creating art in my hometown is incredibly meaningful,” Linsner said. “This mural will celebrate the village and its unique spirit.”
This initiative is funded through the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), supporting projects that enhance arts and cultural opportunities as communities recover from COVID-19. Main Street Arts and the YMCA Board are enthusiastic about the mural’s potential to engage the community.
“The mural is a testament to the strong, vibrant spirit that makes our village special,” said Clifton Springs Mayor Jim Keyes. The community is encouraged to participate and leave their mark on this collaborative public art project.
