A Bath man was fatally injured Tuesday when a cement wall collapsed on him at a scrap yard in the Village of Bath, according to local police.
Officers responded to Clark’s Specialty on Delaware Avenue around 9:51 a.m. after receiving a report of a man crushed by a wall. Upon arrival, authorities found Gerald C. Cleveland, a resident of Bath, deceased at the scene.
An investigation revealed that another worker, cleaning up scrap metal from a previous fire, accidentally struck the wall with heavy equipment, causing it to become unstable and fall on Cleveland.
The Bath Police Department has notified OSHA, which will conduct a further investigation into the incident. Multiple agencies, including the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Bath Ambulance, and Bath Fire, assisted at the scene.
