Bath man accused of violating stay-away order during welfare check

A Bath man was charged with aggravated criminal contempt after officers found him at a home he was barred from visiting under an order of protection, according to the Village of Bath Police Department.

Police responded to an East Washington Street address at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday for a welfare check and EMS assistance.

Officers said they confirmed an active full stay-away order prohibited Chancy Seager, 38, from being at the residence and took him into custody.

The aggravated criminal contempt charge is a Class D felony.

Police said Seager had three prior felony convictions, most recently for first-degree criminal contempt in July 2026.

Seager was processed, evaluated by medical professionals and taken to the Steuben County Jail, police said.
