HWS student group earns national recognition for voter engagement

As Hobart and William Smith Colleges gear up for the 2024 presidential election, the student-led organization HWS Votes has been nationally recognized for its democratic engagement efforts. The group earned the ALL IN Highly Established Action Plan Seal, acknowledging its robust voter engagement strategy. HWS is among 192 campuses recognized nationwide.

The success is attributed to the leadership of outgoing co-presidents Samari Brown ’24 and Katelyn Oswalt ’24, both honored on the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Honor Roll. Assistant Director Peter Budmen praised their efforts, highlighting the contributions of Jasmine Goncalves ’27 and co-president Rafael Aguilar ’25, who participated in the Young Leaders Summer Institute to enhance civic education.

HWS Votes continues to engage the campus community, offering a Campus Call to Action meeting on August 14. The group remains dedicated to voter registration and education, reflecting its mission to foster civic engagement.
