Public health officials across the Finger Lakes are launching a comprehensive survey to assess healthcare access challenges in the region’s rural communities. The initiative, involving eight counties, seeks insights into how factors like location, economy, culture, age, gender, and personal experiences influence healthcare decisions.
Jennifer Rodriguez, Public Health Director for Livingston County, emphasized the project’s goal: “We aim to understand the barriers residents face when accessing medical, dental, vision, mental health, and addiction services.” The survey, developed by the Pivital Public Health Partnership, is a prelude to a larger Community Health Assessment process set to begin later this year and continue through 2025.
Michele Foster, Pivital’s Executive Director, expressed hope that the survey will provide a detailed picture of healthcare experiences. “As public health practitioners, this will enable us to address and reduce barriers effectively,” she said. Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey to help shape future healthcare initiatives.
