What’s next for this historic property in Ithaca? Mixed use eyed by developer

The historic “Sunnygables” property at 919 Elmira Road in Ithaca is seeking state funding for a $1.59 million renovation project.

The Gothic Revival home, dating back to 1851, was once home to Turback’s restaurant, a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement.

Town officials aim to transform the long-vacant property into a mixed-use development, potentially featuring a restaurant or bed & breakfast.

New owner Stanley Hiller, a Buffalo native, plans to revitalize the site, which has been vacant since 2019. A Restore NY grant application has been submitted to cover most of the renovation costs, emphasizing sustainable growth and community engagement.
