Steuben County nursing home workers ratify new 3-year contract

About 100 nursing home workers at Absolut Care of Three Rivers in Steuben County have ratified a three-year contract, securing wage increases and improved benefits. Represented by 1199SEIU, the nation’s largest healthcare workers union, the agreement aims to narrow the wage gap for rural caregivers.

The contract includes a 3.25% wage increase for newly hired service workers and over 7% for Certified Nurse Assistants, with additional annual increases. It also introduces a 10-step wage scale based on experience and adds Juneteenth as a paid holiday.

“This agreement will help recruit and retain staff,” said Nikki Bilby, a Certified Nurse Assistant for 22 years. The contract, effective through April 30, 2027, also enhances pensions, overtime pay, and shift differentials.
