More than 100 employees at the Corelle Brands plant in Corning have been temporarily laid off due to a malfunction at the facility.
A United Steel Workers Local 1034 representative reported that a tank holding molten glass failed on July 20. The plant’s second tank is also out of service for refurbishment, affecting around 150 workers.
The employees are expected to be out of work for about three to four weeks while repairs are made. Corelle Brands, the company behind Instant Pot and Pyrex, owns the plant and employs about 350 people.
