Yankees blown out in ugly home loss to Rays

It was an ugly Saturday afternoon for the New York Yankees (59-41) from start to finish as they were blown out, 9-1, by the Tampa Bay Rays (49-49) at Yankee Stadium.

Nestor Cortes turned in his worst start of the season, allowing six runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings while also issuing two walks to the bottom of the order.

New York’s offense managed just four hits. Ben Rice opened the game with a double and the Yankees did not record another hit until the ninth when Juan Soto tripled and Carlos Narvaez and Gleyber Torres singled. Jahmai Jones drove in the lone run with a groundout.

The Yankees look to bounce back with Marcus Stroman on the mound on Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
