Two Cayuga County fire departments will receive a portion of nearly $1.5 million in federal grants for fire departments across New York. U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the funding on Monday, which comes from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The City of Auburn Fire Department was awarded $45,071.81, and Sempronius Fire Company received $17,994.28. The funds will be used for protective gear, training, and supplies.
“Our brave firefighters risk their lives to protect our communities,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal investment ensures they have the training and equipment needed to stay safe.” Senator Gillibrand added, “This funding provides essential new equipment and resources to keep our firefighters safe during emergencies.”
