Yankees’ implosion continues in another series loss (highlights)

Every team goes through rough stretches and losing streaks, but the New York Yankees (56-39) have been the worst team in Major League Baseball for the last month, and that continued on Thursday night at Tropicana Field as they fell 5-4 to the Tampa Bay Rays (46-47).

The Yankees are an MLB-worst 7-18 in their last 25 games, 0-7-1 in their last eight series, and they have not won back-to-back games in a month.

Nestor Cortes’ road struggles continued as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings, raising his road ERA to 6.04.

Austin Wells and Juan Soto homered in the loss, while Ben Rice added an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Box Score

The Yankees will head to Baltimore to open a three-game series with the Orioles on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before the All-Star break begins.Â
