Luis Torrens crushed two home runs, and Francisco Lindor added a solo shot as the New York Mets (27-35) completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals (27-34) with a 9-1 victory on Wednesday night.
Torrens launched his first homer of the season off Nationals starter Patrick Corbin in the third to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. It was Torrens’ first long ball since October 5, 2022, with the Seattle Mariners.
The veteran catcher’s second home run came in the sixth off Corbin again before Lindor followed with his 10th of the season. It was the second time the Mets hit back-to-back home runs since May 24 against the Giants.
Harrison Bader added a two-run double and a sacrifice fly, while Mark Vientos and Jose Iglesias chipped in RBI.
Luis Severino tossed eight innings of one-run ball, improving to 4-2 on the season with a 3.25 ERA.
The Mets will head to London to face the Phillies for two games, starting Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
