As Micron prepares to arrive in central New York, Onondaga County is addressing a hotel shortage with a proposed grant program to help fund new hotel projects.
The grant, announced by County Executive Ryan McMahon, would provide up to $750,000 for hotel developers. The initiative aims to support projects like the transformation of the former Great Northern Mall into a mixed-use town center featuring six to seven new hotels.
Guy Hart of the Hart Lyman Company emphasized the importance of early funding to overcome today’s high costs. Clay Town Supervisor Damian Ulatowski added that the grants could give developers the needed boost to cover initial costs and paperwork, helping to meet the county’s growing demand for hotel rooms.
