City of Corning approves $21M budget with nearly 3% tax increase

The City of Corning has approved a $21,171,343 budget for the year, which includes a 2.97% tax increase. The budget was passed with a unanimous 5-0 vote by the city council.

The approved tax increase translates to an additional 29 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. For a property valued at $200,000, this means an extra $58 per year, or about $4.84 per month.

The budget allocates funds for police, fire services, park maintenance, staffing, and health insurance. It also raises base fees for water and sewer for the first time since 2018 and 2015, respectively. City Manager Mark Ryckman confirmed that water fees will increase by $4 per month and sewer fees by $1 per month for regular residential meters.
