One guilty plea in Waterloo homicide case: Second suspect’s trial goes on

In a recent turn of events in Seneca County, Wayne Ellison Jr. pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the shooting death of William Waugh in September 2022. The guilty plea was first reported by the Finger Lakes Times early-Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred on Route 96 in Waterloo, led to Ellison’s agreement to serve 20 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for May 22 by County Judge Barry Porsch.

As Ellison’s trial was set to commence, his co-defendant, Christopher Kesterson, began his trial separately following Ellison’s plea. The trial started with jury selection on Monday, but only two jurors were chosen by day’s end, pushing the continuation to Tuesday.
