Sabres playoff drought reaches 13 years with loss to Stars

There are still three games left in the regular season, but the Buffalo Sabres have been eliminated from playoff contention for a 13th straight year, tying the New York Jets for the longest playoff drought in North American Sports.

Buffalo (37-37-5, 79 points) needed a win on Tuesday night to stay alive but fell 3-2 to the Dallas Stars (50-20-9, 109 points).

The Sabres opened the scoring on Alex Tuch’s 21st of the season and led 2-1 after 20 minutes, thanks to Rasmus Dahlin’s 20th. But, it was all Dallas after that as they scored two in the second to grab the lead and locked it down in the third to secure the victory.

Buffalo went 0-for-3 on the power play and had just two shots on the man advantage.

Box Score

The Sabres will head home to host the Washington Capitals on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
