The New York Yankees bullpen suffered a big blow Thursday.

Before the home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees announced that right-hander Jonathan Loáisiga was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right flexor strain.

Dennis Santana, who posted a 2.79 ERA over 9.2 innings in spring training with the Yankees, was signed to a Major League contract and added to the 26-man roster.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters that he felt something during his last appearance on Wednesday in Arizona. He will undergo more tests to determine how long he will miss, but Boone called it a “significant strain.”

The 29-year-old, who turns 30 in November, has been an important piece in the bullpen for the last seven years. He owns a career record of 19-11 with a 3.44 ERA, 207 strikeouts, and 72 walks in 219.2 innings pitched.
