Auburn woman who fled February traffic stop taken into custody for obstruction

  • Staff Report

On March 22, 2024, Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck reported the arrest of Landa A. Flanigan from Brutus, following an outstanding warrant related to a February traffic violation in Auburn. The incident, which occurred on February 8, saw Flanigan failing to adhere to multiple traffic laws, including not stopping at a stop sign, neglecting to use a turn signal, and not yielding to pedestrians at a crosswalk, endangering four juveniles.

The situation escalated when, during a traffic stop initiated by a deputy due to these violations, Flanigan became irate and uncooperative, eventually fleeing the scene in her vehicle. Considering public safety concerns and the deputy’s positive identification of Flanigan, law enforcement chose not to pursue her vehicle immediately but instead issued an arrest warrant for obstruction.

After her arrest, Flanigan was arraigned in CAP court and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to appear in court again at a later date to address the charges stemming from the February incident.
