John T. Netti, 23, faces an upgraded charge of attempted murder following a February incident where he allegedly strangled a woman walking her dog in Sennett. Initially arrested for criminal obstruction of breathing, Netti’s charges were elevated to include second-degree attempted murder, as confirmed during a Cayuga County Court conference.

The incident, which occurred near Rockingham Road on the morning of February 2, began when Netti reportedly emerged from a parked dump utility trailer and attacked the victim. A nearby neighbor intervened by shouting and calling 911, prompting Netti to flee the scene. He was later apprehended by local law enforcement on the Highland Park Golf Course.

The Cayuga County Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney, Susan Azzarelli, indicated that there’s no new court date for Netti yet, as the prosecution awaits further court proceedings. The victim, who did not know Netti, survived the attack thanks to the timely intervention of a witness.
