$2 million federal funding boost for Saunders Finger Lakes Museum

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum is set to receive a $2 million federal funding injection for its construction, following President Biden’s recent signing of an appropriations bill. The bill’s passage comes after months of anticipation, stemming from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer’s initial announcement of the proposed funding at the museum’s campus in August. This significant financial contribution is earmarked for the development of the museum, aimed at celebrating the Finger Lakes Region’s rich culture and ecology.

Natalie Payne, the museum’s Executive Director, expressed profound gratitude for the federal endorsement, highlighting the museum’s role as a beacon for cultural and ecological appreciation in Yates County. The funding is expected to propel the construction of the museum and its experiential exhibits forward, enriching the local community and visitors’ understanding of the Finger Lakes Region.

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum, benefiting from the 2024 Agriculture-FDA appropriations bill, anticipates enhanced momentum in its mission to inspire and educate. Situated on 30 acres in Branchport, the museum’s capital project is a testament to federal and state support for enriching public knowledge and appreciation of regional heritage.
