Public comment period for Padua Ridge Gravel expansion in Watkins Glen extended

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced a 45-day extension to the public comment period regarding the proposed expansion of the Padua Ridge gravel pit.

Initially set to conclude on February 28, the new deadline is now 5 p.m. on April 13.

This extension comes after numerous requests at a public hearing, including appeals from State Senator Tom O’Mara and Phil Palmesano, advocating for more time to review the expansion plans.

While some attendees had requested a 90-day extension, the DEC opted for a 45-day period in response to the significant public interest surrounding the proposal.

The DEC’s decision to extend the comment period aims to ensure thorough public participation and feedback on the potential impact of the gravel pit’s expansion.

Community members and interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments and concerns by mail to Frances Knickmeyer at the NYSDEC Region 8 Headquarters in Avon, New York.
