Mexican restaurant coming to former Magee Diner in Tyre

The Magee Country Diner, a familiar spot near Thruway Exit 41, has been sold to Monterrey Mexican Grill LLC. The transaction, which took place on November 8, 2023, marks the end of an era for the diner, which was known for its homemade meals and dairy farm-themed decor.

The sale, valued at $250,000, transitions the ownership from Gary Schlegel, who had been running the diner since its opening in 1995. Located at 1303 Route 414, the diner was a popular choice for both locals and travelers, conveniently situated near Finger Lakes Premium Outlets and the del Lago Resort & Casino.

In a heartfelt message posted on October 21, Schlegel announced the diner’s closure to the Magee Diner Groupies online community, expressing gratitude for their support over 29 years.

Monterrey Mexican Grill, the new owner, already operates restaurants in Geneva and Newark, as well as several locations in North Carolina.
