Students, staff, and parents at Perkins School have come together to spread holiday cheer to families in need through a donation drive.
Kindergarten through second graders collaborated in collecting 140 non-perishable food items, along with 138 hats, mittens, and scarves for the Newark Food Closet.
The collected items, arranged decoratively around a Christmas tree, were handed over to the Food Closet President Lisa Barrett and co-chair Becky Jandreau on December 20.
The initiative, led by kindergarten teacher Stephanie Potter, reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community.
Expressing gratitude for the school’s efforts, Barrett emphasized the crucial role community support plays in the Food Closet’s mission. The Newark Food Closet, open weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon and on the third Saturday of each month from 9-10 a.m., relies on donations to assist local families.
In addition to food items, the organization welcomes monetary contributions, which can be sent to their address at 301 E. Miller St., Newark, NY 14513. Contributions are also accepted at Citizens Bank, located at 711 W. Miller St. This annual drive underscores the spirit of giving and community solidarity prevalent during the holiday season.
