Authorities in the village of Watkins Glen are probing the cause of a fire that inflicted significant damage on a vacant house early Tuesday morning.
The blaze at 104 Lakeview Avenue was reported just before 8 a.m., with Watkins Glen Fire Department units arriving to confront heavy smoke and flames emanating from the building.

Assistance was quickly provided by neighboring fire departments from Montour Falls, Burdett, and Dundee, offering mutual aid to combat the fire.
Additional support came from the Schuyler County Emergency Management Office and the Watkins Glen Police Department.
As fire crews subdued the flames, an investigation was launched to determine the cause of the fire. The scene remained active with investigators sifting through the aftermath of the incident, which remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported, and authorities have yet to release further details regarding the origin or circumstances leading to the fire.
