State Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has called for the dismissal of a Cornell University professor after he made comments endorsing the terror group Hamas.

Gillibrand emphasized that New York classrooms should not harbor any form of hatred. “As a person of authority at an educational institution, celebrating murder, rape, and the harming of children, he should be fired,” she told media on Wednesday.

The Cornell Daily Sun, a student-run newspaper, reported that history professor Russell Rickford described a Hamas terrorist attack as “exhilarating” and “energizing” during an off-campus rally. This statement has drawn sharp criticism from numerous lawmakers, including Gillibrand.

Responding to the controversy, Cornell University stated, “The comments show no regard for humanity and do not represent Cornell’s values. We are taking this incident seriously and reviewing it according to our procedures.”
