State Route 96 in Ulysses will be closed for 30 days, state says

A major route in Tompkins County is set to shut down for nearly a month.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced the closure of State Route 96 (Trumansburg Road) between Van Dorn Corners Road and Jacksonville Road in the Town of Ulysses. Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, September 18, the road will be closed to allow for crucial culvert replacement.

Drivers are urged to be cautious and to abide by the posted detours during this 30-day closure. The NYSDOT is emphasizing the importance of safety in the work zone: motorists are advised to heed all traffic control measures, including signage and flaggers. Notably, fines will be doubled for speeding within the work zone, and repeat offenses could lead to a suspension of the driver’s license.

For the latest updates on this closure and other roadwork, travelers can contact 511 or check the website at 511NY.org.
