The United University Professions (UUP), representing 37,000 faculty members and staff of the State University of New York (SUNY), have greenlighted a four-year labor agreement that promises yearly pay increases, a lump sum bonus, and additional benefits, announced Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday.
The contract, effective until July 1, 2026, also grants up to 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave and introduces changes to the health insurance program to promote in-network use and manage costs. Additionally, the pact includes provisions for labor-management initiatives.
Governor Hochul stated that an overwhelming 96% of UUP members, which stands as the country’s largest higher education union, voted in favor of the terms.
Union leaders expressed the union’s satisfaction, noting that the deal is especially beneficial for low-wage members, working parents, and those who served in public teaching hospitals during the pandemic.
